A tour in Emirate Palace

On Sunday 23 October, the elite group from ADMC supervised by Mr. Hedley attended the GCC  financial integration forum. We arrived on time at the Emirates Palace, where the conference was located. Everybody had their names tagged on a card hanging on their shoulders.

The conference that we attended was divided into three sessions. After the introduction, Aluwaisheg, representing the GCC, started speaking briefly about the history of the economy in the region and the developments that happened from the establishment till today. He spoke also about the efforts in reducing taxes like tariffs, and trying to free the economy.

The second speaker was from Europe, Lukas Stemitsiotis. He spoke about the struggle that Europe is facing because of the debt that Greece is falling into. This is affecting all Europe, and the EU is looking for a solution for this disaster.

The last session was about ASEAN, and Dr. Aladdin represented ASEAN. He mentioned the differences between the GCC and the EU, and ASEAN. The ASEAN also faced some obstacles but managed to solve them. The difficulties that Dr. Aladdin mentioned were how will developed countries like Brunei and Singapore  share their currency with undeveloped countries like Laos and Cambodia. Also the ASEAN main goal is a perfect capital market.

That was all about the conference; on the other hand, some Elite students faced difficulties in their return journey where misunderstanding happened from their supervisor Hedley and he left them behind to manage themselves without his interference.

Learning Methods for Toddlers

Active learning means that a young child is learning and developing his knowledge. Parents should make the child’s learning simple and enjoyable. Here are favorite activities for toddlers that will develop these young active learners emotionally, cognitively, physically and socially.

NATURE

Exploring nature is one of the best activities for youngsters. Outdoor activities are fun and educational. This nature walk develops his sensation of exploration. Discovering nature does not need any kind of zoo, just a walk around the neighborhood is adequate.

While wandering, let your child take a look at the different corners. It is also helpful if he collects big and small leaves and green and dark leaves. This strengthens his gasp of size and color. Searching for insects underneath stones and leaves, also asking your child what type of tree is this and telling him about the types of trees will help him explore.

BAKING

Baking is enjoyed by all kids as well as parents, and it’s educating as well. Parents should think of something easy and quick, and they should never be concerned about how it tastes or looks.

Involving your child in mixing and measuring ingredients, and talking and explaining while the parents are mixing ingredients together will assist the understanding of simple arithmetic skills. It also helps in developing language and reading skills.

MONEY AND CHILDREN

One of the most attractive activities for young learners is playing with money. Try giving him/her a coin and notes and let him trace the coin and sketch it on a piece of a paper.

Arrange a small store that contains some cash, stickers and toys. Make him/her choose the price and right it on the sticker and stick it on each toy. The shoppers will be you and family members.

It is considered fun learning for the children and he will know after all the purpose of money from that activity. Another benefit they will gain from this exercise is that, they are unable to get everything they demand.

Assignment

From Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei, the journey of Hedley, his wife and his daughter Katie began. Thirty years ago, the trip started to be one of the unforgettable moments in Hedley’s family’s life.

The destination was the Niah  Caves, East Malaysia. They did this trip with kinds of transportation such as the car, a huge ferry and a small boat. The trip had two stopping occasions. They crossed two large rivers by the huge ferry then had to stop to get their lunch. From Miri they went heading to Niah. It was getting dark so Hedley’s family hired someone with his boat to lead them and sailed upriver to the government rest house. It was night so they had to sleep in the rest house, sharing with a group of people who lived there.

The next morning, and to reach the caves they should go across a jungle in a walk for half an hour. They reached the cave; it was smelly and dark. Hedley’s family were lucky because they saw men who climbed up tall bamboo poles. These men were gathering up bird nests from the roof of the cave to sell these nests to the Chinese market that will make of it a soup called bird nest soup. The cave was slippery and to see what is around they had flashlights.

In the afternoon they started packing up for the return journey, after they thanked their new friends they met in the rest house. At the end it was an unforgettable trip.
